I think a good trade off, particularly if this platform continues to grow, that instead of attempting to micromanage servers, give people a quick and easy way to block entire servers. Even if I don't agree with that methodology, I think it'll more likely prevent situations where the Mastodon's mods choose FOR everyone else which servers and speech gets to be seen. I think the more choice the better, in EVERY aspect of life.
I'm not totally at ease with preemptively banning certain political speech, but on the other hand, this is private property and you do need to explicitly agree to the rules to be here. There's still the concern that less regulated servers will routinely get unfederated due to a small number of bad actors.
