@madeindex they do decent work for their own platform (mastodon.social) but completely ignoring Moderation issues and absolute lack of useful moderation tools. They may be able to handle it because they get reports, but I sure wish they'd think of everyone else using their software too.

@Weinberg @madeindex those things can actually be changed by the admins of the instance by editing a couple lines of code.

That being said, I don't think mastodon.social will raise them anytime soon unfortunately.

As an admin of my own instance, I do wish they'd put it directly into the config file to make it easier, but I didn't have much issue changing them.

@Weinberg @madeindex it's unfortunate that more instances don't allow you to upload larger media, but there *are* a lot of other instances that have a higher character limit for posts.

So if the character limit is important to you, there are options to migrate, you just have to ask around and find out which instance has a character limit that works good for you.
