I've made a deliberate choice against a quoting feature because it inevitably adds toxicity to people's behaviours. You are tempted to quote when you should be replying, and so you speak at your audience instead of with the person you are talking to. It becomes performative. Even when doing it for "good" like ridiculing awful comments, you are giving awful comments more eyeballs that way. No quote toots. Thank's

There’s a huge amount of discourse out there now with, in particular, people making what I think is a pretty solid case for uses that are absolutely not toxic.
What’s interesting is that to me, this is in ways no different than quoting a section of an email - pointing out that I’m addressing a specific comment.

Also, obviously, this was also an experiment to see how quickly I could replicate making a QT without the function being embedded. It was actually pretty straightforward and I may take a quick little video of the process on iOS.

And finally, just cos I’m still active on Twitter, im covering my bases and making it clear that I both understand and respect what Eugen is trying to do. I simply disagree and think that he’s gonna get “watered” on this - enough people will want this feature that they will flow around what he wants.
Personally, I think it’s similar to arguing that putting horns on vehicles causes/enables people to behave aggressively. It ain’t the horns, it’s the people.
