I'm over on @Xkeeper now, I guess.
this is actually unrelated to what happened before
i wrote a bunch of words about what i think about mastodon http://tilde.town/~xkeeper/#mastodon
so what's the canonical "here's what mastodon is" url, for people who don't use it
there are exceptions, but they may not be as common as you think.
maybe you're right and the other person is wrong.
if you go into it with an open mind, maybe something will change. maybe they'll realize they were wrong, or maybe you'll learn something, too, and find out that you were wrong.
but to use aggression is to throw all of that out the window. there is no chance for improvement or reflection.
words have power.
think about what you're going to say. think about what you're doing, and the effects it will have.
don't be afraid to escalate if you must. but... to immediately jump to maximum force removes the option of descalating.
we're all human.
i guess i can say one thing at least
i don't really know where i was going with this
it's funny because not even a few days earlier i'd talked about how being open had often led to me getting a lot of flak about it before, and sure enough...
some people have sent me bits and pieces since apparently that rippled through things a little bit
if it helps make things better, that's good, i guess; i don't think i'll really be coming back, certainly not to that place, and certainly not as open as i was.
i don't have much to say other than i feel pretty bad about what happened. deleting my account on the other one was probably a bit much, but i get irrational when i get angry and that sort of thing got me real angry
is this thing on? kind of ironic that i retreated here, but i guess this is the account i always dedicated to screaming about mastodon issues
cool
if you type words in the text box and then hit reply (e.g. to continue a thread), it wipes whatever you had in the textbox, because this is a well-designed functional web app
then again what part of mastodon has any consistency at all lol
"how dare you want consistency in user interface, especially after everyone got made at the other website i'm trying to copy for switching to a different style"
maybe we can submit a pull request to replace the owner of the mastodon project with someone who isn't a butt
https://mastodon.social/media/BuvAT5sIODiHmAlNw-c
also you can't disable the ugly animation even if you use usercss with "animation: none !important" in it, so if you happen to dislike especially pointless animations for some reason, you can just go screw yourself i guess
my favorite thing about using the same image (avatar) in two different contexts (timeline and profile) is that you get the disadvantages of having both. a square avatar with a fancy border or text gets cut off in profile view, a round avatar has empty/useless space in timeline view.
but it's ok, the big guy likes the ~aesthetics~ and the annoying animation when you hover over it, so it will stay that way
mastodon ui gripe #9173: the post privacy level does not indicate if it is set to something non-default other than the (low contrast) icon changing.
though this sort of follows the same problems with the rest of the ui not being useful at indicating anything. i forget i have my userscript on that makes shit actually look active.
