This panel really casts a light on how much our eating habits are affected by media and culture.

Substituting the behaviors of other animals for the "lions kill animals" fallacy can very effectively illustrate just how silly that argument actually is.

This is a way in which humans really ARE like other animals: we eat those who are helpless, and who are children when he or she is killed (relative to their natural lifespan).

Some peeps claim to believe humans are perfect killing machines in nature, but we're just not. It can be useful to remind them that the "apex predator" they think justifies their needlessly killing sentient individuals only exists in their own minds.

If other animals ever "get religion", it probably won't look good for humans.

It's easy to look at this panel and wonder if the question being asked is, "if saying 'bacon' somehow justifies needlessly killing other animals, is the reverse also true? And if so or if not, then why?"

If someone raises a topic, it seems reasonable to assume it's a topic they're interested in discussing. Nevertheless, this panel's situation is something we all have to be prepared for, since it happens so often. How do YOU deal with this?

This panel has another brilliant instance of Bizarro cleverly questioning whether or not we and the animals actually do behave like one another.

Asking clever questions of people's strange assertions seems like a reasonably gentle form of advocacy. Being as sincere and non-confrontational as possible is very helpful!

This comic has layers. There's the fun reversal/pun joke on the surface, but then there's the realization that essentially all of the individuals we kill and eat are also babies (relative to their natural lifespan), all of which which hints at the question of why it's not OK for bears to eat babies if it's acceptable for humans to.

Happy 9th of !

This panel is fun for the way that it subtly invokes the question of what it is about other animals that somehow justifies our needlessly killing them en masse.

Flipping the roles in clever ways to see what it looks like is a regular staple of Dan Piraro's work, and this panel is no exception; if we act like animals (e.g. bears) then it must be reasonable to assume that they act like us, right?!

Dorothy is right here -- even people who are PAID to act like lions don't do a terribly convincing job of it, which makes the all-to-common comparison between humans and lions (or other predators) that much more bizarre once you think it through.

It can be very effective to repeat people's "meat-eating excuses" back to them while resetting the focus of their protestation back to the actual victim; i.e. the individuals being killed.
