Isn't it amazing how we're conditioned not to care about taking the lives of others for trivial reasons? It's shocking, the number of individuals killed to create one item.

It's so easy to check for these labels. There's really no excuse not to. If only we could get these labels on sugar, spirits, and other places where animal products are used in processing (even if they're not in the final product)...

We're again starting the month with a Smyth ditty to introduce the notion that fur, leather, and body-parts in general aren't a reasonable fashion choice. Vegan Smyth does a brilliant job of bringing light to this difficult issue.

If concern for the lives for sea-dwellers isn't enough to convince people, then maybe the plight of fellow humans will. The land-animal slaughtering process is no better, being worked largely by vulnerable populations such as immigrants and the underprivileged, who are likewise abused.

Our consumption of fish has many consequences - not only for the fish we eat but also for other fish/crustaceans, for cetaceans (whales, dolphins, and porpoises), for marine mammals, for birds, and for ecosystems.

If fish's bodies are good for us, you would think that pregnant women would be encouraged to eat MORE of it, not LESS. No animal products are ever actually beneficial to anyone involved, from the one being killed, to those made to process the bodies, to the one who's convinced to eat such things.

One way or another, we're reliably taking them out; today's share is in solidarity with the world-wide climate-march. The next sign they'd carry would be, "Will work for [not being] food!"

As the esteemed Bentham wrote, the most important question is not, "Can they reason?" nor, "Can they talk?" but, "Can they suffer?"

The "catch and release" idea seems so strange. It just isn't logical that someone wants to be nice to fish, but also decides to needlessly mangle and hurt them. If you ever did "catch-and-release" before going vegan, do you recall how you felt about it at the time, vs. how you feel about it now?

It's truly astounding the number of ways that we're managing to damage and interfere with so many species. What's particularly troubling about this statistic is that fish farms in Norway produce more than 65% of the world’s supply of farmed Atlantic salmon.

Most people never see first-hand the destruction we're perpetuating on other animals, and this is doubly so for sea life. It's out of sight, out of mind.

Politicians would have a very different response to this issue if this genocide were happening to species that humans actually care about.

Beware the nonsensical spin that "industry professionals" always offer to justify destructive activities. The takeaway from this might also be that animal rights activists should carefully consider the spin THEY'RE putting on responses to the industry, given the shenanigans that groups uses.

An abolitionist's response to the question of eating bivalves. While it's true that fish and bivalves don't feel pain like you or I do, it's also true that you and I don't feel pain the same, and THAT doesn't stand as an ethical justification for us to hurt each other.
