#Article13 has lurched back into life due to a last minute Franco-German deal:
Any profit-making site over 3 years old will have to install YouTube-style automatic copyright filters on all uploads.
In practice, they would have to outsource it to Google etc. Big tech would choose what we see, even on tiny indie sites.
Please tell your MEPs today, in your own words, that this is not acceptable. They vote on this next Monday:
fediverse talking about hourly wages [-]
I wouldn't feel bad if someone said they were making more money than me, or feel better than anyone who said they were making less.
I feel there could be folks who are in a less fortunate position, who may feel like I'm frolicking in and performing obscene "make it rain" gestures. I'm afraid of making anyone feel that way.
fediverse talking about hourly wages [-]
I'm feeling too diffident to participate after looking into the threads. I wish i felt more self-confident to be able to speak freely about it.
Perhaps it's a product of my environment, or upbringing that it's not a conversation point you should discuss publicly.
On digital connectivity: “I do hope that the rich world that’s facing these challenges comes up with solutions so that we can once again view digital connectivity as an overwhelmingly positive thing.”
Please *contact me*. All I need is the domain name, which EU Member State it's located in, and the rough topic of the instance. Approximate user count welcome, but not necessary.
Please help. This is important.
Did you know there's an #opensource equivalent to Google Street View? It's called #OpenStreetCam, mapping the world's roads with dashcam images, and uses machine learning & computer vision to improve #OpenStreetMaps. It's easy to get started, so check it out and contribute today! All you need is a phone, a car, and a mount.
Recently, Telenav has partnered with Waylens to create customised cams to contribute with. This box just arrived over the weekend :) Happy mapping!

Instagram ranked worst for young people’s mental health .
I am very aware of the toxic side of IG and look forward to establishing Pixelfed Labs . The goal is to get the community involved in solving these tough issues through discussions, proposals and implementations.
We can build better alternatives if we work together!
"Critics of the big tech companies are often told, 'If you don’t like the company, don’t use its products.' I did this experiment to find out if that is possible, and I found out that it’s not—with the exception of Apple."

I love this explanation of #lunarpunk
"picture solarpunk as a shining metropolis full of Neo-Victorian architecture, the roofs covered with gardens and solar panels, and trains running throughout the city.
Now move out a little bit to a neighboring city, where dark, Gothic buildings loom over dusty roads, and covens of Eco-conscious witches gather in the woods at night to cast protection spells on their mushroom-farms."

Facebook has a team working on getting kids under 13 hooked on Facebook.
The excellent Mastodon/PeerTube/Pleroma app Mastalab has changed its name to "Fedilab", to reflect that it works on many Fediverse services.
Fedilab is available through Google Play and @fdroidorg
The new site is at:
Their Fediverse account remains the same though, it's still at:
(It's also due to get PixelFed support soon.)

Some good news to kick off the weekend with.
Jeff Bezos Protests the Invasion of his #Privacy as Amazon Builds a Sprawling Surveillance State For Everyone Else
"If #Bezos were the victim of #surveillancestate abuses, it would be scandalous and dangerous. It would also be deeply ironic because #Amazon is a critical partner for the USGov in building an ever-more invasive, militarized and sprawling #surveillance state."
