I made some food

I pulled out a cake of oolong yesterday and while very tasty, was way too much leaf for my little gaiwan.

I went shooting today at a spot on public land I was told about some time ago and was appalled by the lack of stewardship. There was enough broken glass, cartridges, wood, and pieces of previous targets to fill the back of a pickup. I took what I could but it barely made a dent ๐Ÿ˜ž

I haven't had tea in a while. Trying to do things even when I don't feel like it.

Setting up your own Mastodon instance really isn't too difficult.

I'm looking for a #voice #assistant that is:

* #OpenSource
* Compatible with #SelfHosting
* Doesn't send private data to third parties
* Doesn't require an account with a third party

Sadly #Mycroft fails, both by forcing the use of an identifying account and then sending data to third parties (read the privacy policy).

Is there a #privacy friendly #FOSS alternative though? The only thing I've found is Susi.ai but I haven't looked into its privacy policy yet. It's FOSS though.

Today someone noticed an ad based on a word I said during a conversation we had with our phones nearby yesterday. It's hard to escape surveillance when everyone around me participates.

Wow, FB and Google were explicitly condemned by Amnesty International: "Google and Facebook's insidious control of our digital lives undermines the very essence of privacy and is one of the defining human rights challenges of our era"

I'm done. While not impossible, there's no way I could train someone to manage their own mail server. I can hardly convince people in my community to use a password manager.

This week I hope to spin up a mail server, wish me luck ๐Ÿคž

This weekend I migrated my Nextcloud data from one drive to another and in the process lost ~1 weeks worth of calendar and contact changes. Guess I should've set it up correctly the first time ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ On the bright side I also set up scheduled backups to it using restic.

After a fair bit of trial and error, I got NextCloud connected to open source calandar, contacts, and task apps on my phone. ๐Ÿ˜… While not very hard to do, I think many would find configuring CalDAV/CardDAV confusing (I used DAVx5).

Day 3 of no google: freaking out because I just realized forwarding gmail to another address isn't working ๐Ÿคฆ (still moving import things over)

It would be really time consuming for someone without reliable high speed internet access to do this, especially of they had more data than me.

WOW ๐Ÿ˜ฎ downloaded all 36.3 GB of my data from Google. I know two thirds are photos and documents but the rest? It's going to take a long time to sort through it all.

I've moved contacts and calendars off google. Next step is moving all my OTPs out of google authenticator. Then I'll need to move all my photos and documents out of drive. Its so easy to take for granted how much I relied on these services.

After going though all my apps and finding open source alternatives I'm down to a single home screen with only a few apps that track usage.
