Uuuuuuh my computer just stopped playing sound properly....
@adamk678 mine does that sometimes. Not sure why. Usually after a reboot it works. Have you tried that?
@ScribbleAddict Didn't even have to; while I was troubleshooting it started working as suddenly as it stopped. I have no idea what happened.
@adamk678 sound is wonky man. I have had almost no issues with my computer that I built, but sound is the one thing that drops out randomly. Not sure why. Other more advanced computer people than me weren't sure either. But hey, as long as it keeps working, not that big a deal.
@ScribbleAddict It's happening again now, and seems to be an issue with my headphones. When I switch to my bluetooth speaker, all sound comes through just fine
@adamk678 Hm that's not good. It could be the input if you're switching to bluetooth and then it's fine. I would test the port with another pair of headphones to see if it's actually the pair or if it's the input.
@adamk678 It could be a software thing too, if you've changed anything or installed any software that involves sound recently.
@ScribbleAddict It's such a strange issue. Some sounds come through fine and others don't. I might try updating some drivers and seeing if that affects anything.
@adamk678 Weird. That makes it sound like a software issue. But I don't know a ton about sound issues in computers. Updating drives could help.
@ScribbleAddict I'm assuming it must be a software issue because otherwise wouldn't all sounds be affected? And since it's happening in multiple programs I guessed it must be a sound driver or something.
@adamk678 Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. If you know your motherboard, you might be able to figure out what kind of sound card you have and google the issue.
@ScribbleAddict Having a lot of trouble figuring out what the cause of the problem is, since it only affects certain sounds. Mostly voices are affected. Some other sounds as well. If I'm watching a video with someone speaking, their voice will fade away. After a few minutes it'll come back. My volume mixer shows sound playing the entire time. Next time it fades out I want to try listening to a song.
@adamk678 That's so strange. I wonder if it's a frequency or something that's cutting out. Did you say it's happening in multiple applications? Internet apps like youtube and Spotify, and also non web related apps on your computer?
I wonder if this is something @Ocean22, @staticsafe, or @ewankeep might know something about? Guys know anything about sound issues?
@ScribbleAddict @adamk678 @Ocean22 @staticsafe The only thing I know about sound is that it goes wonky, lol. I've found that on Linux it often works to change sound settings via command line when the GUI sound mixer isn't working. I try and isolate my variables. BlueTooth is working, which means underlaying sound is good. But do other speakers work? If you have more than one headphone jack do they work? Good luck @adam678!
@ewankeep @ScribbleAddict Only one headphone jack. I tried a different pair of headphones and it's still wonky so maybe it's a hardware issue with the audio jack after all :(
@ewankeep @ScribbleAddict Actually I've got an external microphone with a headphone jack. The problem doesn't seem to be happening there. So it must be an issue with the jack on my computer. Unfortunately I don't have the time or resources to replace it right now...
@ScribbleAddict I put it together about a year and a half ago now I think. Replacing a jack isn't really something I can do right now so I guess I'll just live with the disappointment for now 🙃
Thankfully I can still listen to stuff through my external microphone, but I don't think the audio quality is quite as good :/
@ScribbleAddict I've never heard of this kind of issue before and can't find anything about it online so I'll try contacting customer support for the manufacturer of my motherboard and seeing if they have any advice. Worst case scenario I start saving up for a replacement. I'll find some sort of solution though.
@adamk678 good luck. That really sucks -_- I hope it isn't as bad as it seems.
@adamk678 sorry dude. That's very frustrating. Glad you have at least something you can use to make it work until you find a solution.
