So I saw a thing abut Ambassador bots yesterday, and I want to revisit that.

I think the idea is fantastic, and I hope it catches on.

I would love to be able to follow the top boosted//favorited toots from every instance.

I would love to be able to engage with the people that those users boost.

This is a better solution to filling the federated timelines than followbots, and I want to see it catch on.

@ajroach42 Wouldn't it be easier if instances would have a feed for other servers to make their local timeline available? That way servers would only need to subscribe to all the other instances.

Even better: Instances subscribe to the federate timeline of other instances and merge them together, eliminating duplicates.

Pretty sure a protocol can be found to merge timelines in a decentralized way.

@peter that sounds like a great way to end up with a federated timeline that is huge and full of junk.

I'm sure it could work for some instances that want to be identical to other instances, but that's not what I'm looking for.

I don't want every post from any server. I want some (the best?) posts from most servers. On an instance with more than a few hundred users, this will happen organically.

On a smaller instance, or a single user instance, it wouldn't.

@ajroach42 Maybe I am missing something, how are followbots currently making sure that there is quality toots (I guess they have to be
called #qualitoots )

@peter Follow bots are not. Follow bots are another noisy//bad solution that the Ambassador bot proposal was attempting to improve upon.
