Hi friends - just a quick reminder that I'm not active on this account anymore, you can find me @alexhillman instead!

I'm no longer wondering if I'm on the right mastodon instance. I've moved to a focused one: jawns.club. Instance as locality feels like the perfect fit. Instance == neighborhood. Please follow me over there! @miketannenbaum

Time for !

Hi! I live in and (used to) love the . I'm into long-term sustainable thinking, from to to society to civilization, and I love talking , , and . I really dig the creative side of business, and the business side of .

I also enjoy with my partner @ariellemargot, and meeting new with interesting—and different—backgrounds and life experiences.

Please say hi! Now seeking new friends😬

@stephencoyle hey hey - quick podstand question. is there a way to edit my personal notes? I started on mobile but didn't finish, and now would like to on desktop...but can't find a way to log in/update. whoops!

@alexhillman Also, makes the "local" timeline make more sense, since I always expect it to be geo local, not instance local.

Exciting update: jawns.club is now live!

I'm gonna get my head wrapped around the tools and reach out to volunteer mods before opening invited but this is looking good 🙌

Imagining if Mastodon called instances "neighborhoods" instead. The metaphor works really well IMO and doesn't sound like robot-speke.

New here? Remember that Twitter is optimized to make you into passive consumers, by en(r/g)aging you with content that you don't choose yourself.

Here, that doesn't happen. But it also means you're responsible to find people to follow.

It will take some work.

If you're willing to put that in, you'll find a wide variety of friendly people that will be happy to have meaningful conversions and laugh and cry together with you.

Start by searching and looking at who other people follow.

The seemingly obligatory intro:
I am #philly based, I’m a #designer, #developer, #illustrator, not always in that order, I do a little #improv, and have been considering doing some #standup, late at night I #bake and conjure up edible magic in my #foodlab - I’m loud, I’m obsessive and my middle name is #rant (seriously, it’s rant) oh and for comedic effect I bend the truth into the shape of a pretzel, not one of those NYC pretzels a philly pretzel - which if you didn’t know is mostly knot, Hi!

Been thinking a *lot* about the next 10 years of Indy Hall, and finally got some of those thoughts recorded during a podcast session with one of my fav local Philly shows.

The gist: I want to create some kind of apprenticeship program designed to help people find work that grants them freedom.

This includes reframing "entrepreneurship" as "creating a sustainable job for yourself FIRST" but it includes other career paths too (remote employment & other hybrids).

All based in Philly.

@alexhillman this makes too much sense, people would understand it immediately.

"instances" is such a dev word to describe it :blobugh:

@alexhillman I like that. Gets you thinking that the instance you choose is important to your experience.

the word authentic doesn't sound authentic anymore
