sometimes i see conversations about designing characters of different races, and they all seem to assume european white is the "default" race, which is the kind of attitude that leads people to resort to making east asian characters into a caricature, or assuming anime characters are not japanese because they don't have those features

tbh not unlike assuming stick figures are male unless you put a bow on it to make it female, characters are only interpreted as e. asian (by non-asians) if you give them slanty fox eyes, even though they have a variety of different features, including within a single country. maybe turn it around and ask why white people aren't drawing themselves with obvious double lids, long noses and hot pink skin
