Good morning - 542 words today, taking me to 71,901.

When you describe a character, do you usually base them on a real person (perhaps referring to a photograph for inspiration), or some imagined person you've constructed in your mind's eye?

@amgerbil Good afternoon!

My characters are always imaginary.

Sometimes I base them off other characters, sometimes they're an amalgam, sometimes they just pop up within the story and exist as people in their own right. I've been known to refresh 'this person does not exist' to get a bit-character to describe.

Real people inform me as to what is plausible, and can lend traits to characters, but I never based the whole character on someone!

@amgerbil Most of my characters are a mixture of bits of personality/looks/body language I've picked up while interacting with people or just watching. The exact combination is purely imaginary.

@amgerbil mostly I base them on myself, or a facet of myself, because I can only imagine what it's like to be someone else using myself as a reference, but I add outward characteristics from other people, and try to understand perspectives of people in lives and situations I've never known, often based on real things.
