Me at 18: I will never hate any politician more than I hate Margaret Thatcher.

Me today: Oh, you sweet, naive summer child.

@angusm I understand how you're feeling and why. But, still....

@DavidBridger @angusm she started the social decline (at least in the UK) disguised as economic growth and individual responsibility. Without her those right wing clowns wouldn’t have such an easy game?

@jnfrd @DavidBridger @angusm she was far from alone. Ronnie Raygun was her enabler, don't forget.
At least we kicked the tories out before trunp got back in!

@Dss @DavidBridger @angusm you the bad actor?

Yes. She wasn’t alone but I’d argue she’s the most important person for the UK - and partially Europe - who started the neoliberal revolution.

@jnfrd @DavidBridger @angusm at first I thought you were calling me a bad actor.

Yes, Thatcher did a lot of harm. Much is blamed on her that she didn't start, and that other forces caused.

Her worst act was the whole "Society is dead, the individual is all" bullshit that got us the landlord classes, and then ignorant tax cuts that eventually got us billionaires.

@Dss @DavidBridger @angusm oh. I didn’t even think a out that. Sorry. ;)

And I fully agree. This idea that there are only individuals (and their families) is an extremely dangerous and damaging delusion, that sadly is nowadays the ideology most people follow.

@jnfrd Yep, followed you. Not just for that, but also the 4th line of your profile!

@Dss Thanks, that's a good thing to agree on!

@angusm
Let's hope for more gender-neutral toilets

@angusm Margaret really raised the bar high...

@angusm If anything, I hate her even more now than I did then. She and her ghastly ideology lie at the root of so much that's awful about the world today.

There's plenty of politicians who are very nearly as bad as her these days though.

@DavidBridger @pdcawley @angusm she at least has the excuse of ignorance. We know what her policies do now

@angusm
They stand upon the shoulders of dwarves.

@angusm
After sleeping on this I think I am maligning dwarves.
They stand upon the shoulders of goblins.
From whence you can segue to two goblins in a trenchcoat wearing a haystack as a wig jokes.

@angusm for so long, I thought Thatcher was the only human being whose death I would celebrate. Ha!

@angusm @lisamelton I hate Reagan more because he’s at the root of a lot of shitty things today, most likely including one rotten mango

@angusm
Good starting point though. A lot of today's political fools are just following her ideas to their logical, but inhumane, conclusion.
@lisamelton

@angusm that's a tough one. I'd go for hating another politician *as much* as Margaret Thatcher

@angusm controversially I don't hate Margaret Thatcher. I grew up in Doncaster, in the wake of her leadership, and a lot of the things she's blamed for around here don't stack up to scrutiny (a lot of them do though). I don't agree with her policies, but overall I don't think she was a terrible Prime Minister. I'd actually rate Tony Blair as a worse Prime Minister, even though his policies were closer to what I'd agree with than Margaret Thatcher's.

@angusm As a university student I participated in the demonstrations against something called "The Bokros Package", named after the finance minister who set it up to save the collapsing economy. The package saved the economy and I want Bokros in command now, as our economy is collapsing again.
