going through my notes on the MLA "Reinterpreting nonsense" panel for anything that might be useful to this current project and my main takeaway apparently was "nonsense reminds us that we are trash"

(no one on the panel said these words exactly—I think I was paraphrasing the argument one of the panelists was making, something along the lines of "literature normally creates an expectation of value or benefit, and nonsense shows how weird it is to expect that")

someone on the panel (I think Kurt Beals kurtbeals.com/) brought up the work of Raoul Hausmann, which I hadn't known about. but it's amazing, e.g. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raoul_Ha
