@appleinsider 🤷 All I see are “legally not binding statements”.

And an ugly “legally binding TOS” that was forced onto their users.

@appleinsider I don’t understand how any creative professional is still using Adobe software. They are not your friend. There are alternatives.

@jblake @appleinsider I’m genuinely seeking recommendations; specifically alternatives to Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop. (MacOS.) Being able to open those old files is a must.

@stewartsmith @appleinsider Affinity is my go-to, and it opens Adobe files - it opened my Illustrator files without issue, but I expect results will vary. I would recommend downloading their free trials and seeing how it works for you. I also use Sketch and Pixelmator depending on the project.

@stewartsmith @jblake @appleinsider Affinity Designer was already mentioned in this thread, but Affinity goes beyond just that: it covers InDesign with Affinity Publisher, from the looks of it. Affinity Designer offers a choice between pixel and vector modes and in that regard it should cover both Photoshop and Illustrator.
In summary: the suite is meant to replace the Adobe suite’s most popular applications.

No, I don’t work for the owner, Canva. I did however buy Affinity Designer for MacOS on a Black Friday sale a couple of years ago. I like it. These days they even offer an alternative universal license: a bundle of all their apps.

Developer notes: Checked the App Bundle and found a LibCocoaUI in there and .nib files. From what I can tell, the app is built on 100 % native code and thus runs at full speed without Electron. Not sure if it’s WxWidgets, Qt, or Obj-C/C++ with Cocoa, though.

@stewartsmith Clip Studio Paint is alright. It's still corpo and moving in a bad direction but it's a good software with some advantages and disadvantages

@appleinsider A well-written piece. Hits on two key points in the statement:

a. The latter wasn't really in question.
b. The former is oddly specific

The statement is hilariously transparent, every word tweaked to avoid their actual plan, and thereby exposing said plan.

"Adobe does not train Firefly Gen AI models on customer content."

"does not" – present tense (so you will in the future?)

"Firefly Gen AI models" – our Gen2Pro Models, tho, we gonna train that up in your content!

@appleinsider I just assume the worst out of every tech company, so my response is "Sure, Jan."

@Tim_Eagon @appleinsider totally; benevolence and capitalism have never been equatable. 😮‍💨

@appleinsider "I'm altering the deal. Pray I don't alter it further."

@appleinsider there are so many OSS tools that you can achieve everything you did with those for free without throwing money at BigCorps
