(Not that my English audio comprehension is particularly great either, though, so it's kind of a low bar to meet.)

What I'm finding with Duolingo especially is that my ears are already primed to hear it, which feels like a big advantage when learning a new and complex writing system. A lot of back and forth between audio and text, taking turns compensating for one with the other.

I realize that grammatically Japanese is probably still the hardest language for English speakers to learn but I can't help but wonder if our being surrounded by Japanese media and social network content these days tilts it back in the easy direction

Any Intro To Mastodon thinkpiece that doesn't acknowledge that it's existed since 2016 and was essentially first colonized by a bunch of gay communist furries (and later: game devs, circa holiday season, but that's less important) is totally useless imo

Chapter 2 of Assembly Language for Kids includes a detailed study of the source code of an assembler, which seems like the sort of dedication to actually understanding the thing you are developing against I’d previously only seen for Lisp. archive.org/details/Assembly_L

Seeing various Mastodon instances/communities developing has me thinking about how I'm frequently furry-adjacent in a way that looks suspiciously like the way that people still in egg mode are frequently trans-adjacent
