Space experts foresee an “operational need” for nuclear power on the Moon
“We do anticipate having to deploy nuclear systems on the lunar surface."
@arstechnica What could possibly go wrong?
@arstechnica This is going to end up with two astronauts having to create makeshift space suits from duct tape and venture into the vacuum to avert a catastrophic meltdown before dying heroically.
@christineburns @arstechnica I hope they at least get a statue for their heroism
@arstechnica
The prospect of colonising the moon, let alone Mars, seems incredibly distant at the moment, especially with the looming specter of environmental and societal collapse.
I'm 45 now and was saying to somebody just today that the utopian future that science fiction promised when I was a child seems incredibly distant and unlikely
@arstechnica pretty sure that's going to open portals to the demon world, in Mars too.
So, um, where do they put the spent fuel? In a parking orbit?
@artemesia @arstechnica I would guess buried a short distance from the power plant. There's already lots of radiation in space and no water table to pollute.
@arstechnica Curious to see the cooling solution
