Interesting read, but unsurprisingly very #economics-focused. I miss a bit the mention of technological solutions that would reduce the inevitability of network effects - read: open standards and protocols which allow people to interact across provider boundaries, enabling #decentralization.

The user guide says they show "public posts, but obviously they don't show *all* public toots, as they don't show replies. But what are the exact rules? Are toots which are replies to an existing toot hidden? Or are all toots that include an at-mention hidden?
