If you crave an instance/safe space to discuss about food/art/culture/relationships/poetry/books/lgbtq+/feminism.
Signups are open. But I can make it managed. Let's see if this works. :)
#Introduction I like to introduce myself by my #books - five so far, in fiction, #poetry & #kidlit; the titles are in my bio - and that usually fills up all the character spaces. :) Most social media platforms I've used have demanded action, even performance. I am tired. I would like to be as quiet here as I am IRL (my friends will tell you this is true, but that I have a big laugh). Things I love: plants, #art, creating rather than reacting. I grew up in #SriLanka & #Malaysia. I live in #India.
Growing up as a lonely, bullied kid in the 90s, I found solace in books, computers, and later, the online world. In my quest to find belonging, never quite fulfilled, I've been involved with various communities over the year. A biography in toots:
@email@example.com Caste is a rigidly hierarchical form of social stratification sanctioned (for hindus at least) by religion. Access to resources, economic opportunities and education is highly dependent on which caste you are born into. The caste system is beneficial to those belonging to higher castes and hence is reinforced by them through discrimination and terror targeted at people belonging to lower castes.
I wonder if the people joining Mastodon from India also have an appetite for ditching more of the capitalist internet, because there are replacements for many more things than just twitter.
For example, no need to use google maps when you can add detail of even things like footpaths in your town to OpenStreetMap :
The Switching Software website contains an ever-growing list of ethical alternatives for many things:
I have added Hindi, Marathi and Kannada to our translation portal:
I'm queer woman doing research on stress, stigma, and health in the queer community. I process stuff about bodies, shame, and mental health through art (same handle on instagram 👀).
Opinions aplenty about queerness, gender, politics, mental health, body positivity/liberation/acceptance -- often listen more than I speak
Anonish account (for now). Hi.
Okay here's what I'm going to do, or at least try!
I will setup another 1 or 2 servers for sidekiq. (sidekiq is the part of Mastodon that handles the jobs, think about all actions in the network.)
Currently we are about 100k jobs behind and I'm afraid one server just won't do..
If anyone has any experience with this could some give me a few tips? I know I'm going to fix it but it could be a lot faster!
