Today is the 1 year anniversary of peerverse.space!

That’s my very own @pixelfed server. It’s the Fediverse server I’ve managed for the longest time.

Check out my bio: “I created this instance so that I could share what I love with complete and total freedom.”

I wrote that a year ago, and it remains true even now.

I was highly motivated to replace Instagram, and peerverse.space has done this in spades.

Congrats to me! Long live peerverse.space!

Not into photography. Never used IG. Can you share some reasonings for posting to a pixelfed, rather than to a mastodon? Some UI elements? Thanks
@pixelfed

Where I am trying to explore is do we need these multiplatforms or a single omni AP server w diff UI components during composition and consumption of a post.
@pixelfed

@aswath Running on one omni AP server just isn’t going to happen.

The reason Mastodon is successful is not because of what it does but because of what it does not do. It is incredibly focused on microblogging, and therefore succeeds at it.

In contrast, Hubzilla tries to do everything. And while it’s incredibly powerful and can do lots of impressive things, it has little adoption because regular people are overwhelmed by it.

Someone can create a better UI for it but nobody does.

@aswath If you’re not into photography or short form video, then @pixelfed doesn’t matter. But it definitely matters to me.

@atomicpoet @pixelfed Sorry, I didn't phrase the q correctly. I am trying to understand your reasons what Pixelfed offers that Mastodon does not. I mentioned about me is to tell you I am unable to deduce by myself and need your input.

@aswath Just as Mastodon is a federated alternative to Twitter, @pixelfed is a federated alternative to Instagram.

Mastodon is a microblogging platform. @pixelfed is a photo gallery platform.

Unlike Mastodon, @pixelfed lets you edit and apply filters to photos. You can also add custom licenses to your work and create your own portfolio too.

Anyway, I highly recommend that you create accounts on other Fediverse alternatives so you can figure out what differentiates each of them.

@atomicpoet @pixelfed Thanks. I do have an acct, but being a casual user, I didn't know abt filters & licensed portfolio.

@aswath @atomicpoet @pixelfed Pixelfed is also about to release Stories, which is a huge deal as well
