We're seriously only a few years away from marketed nerd nostalgia for the first-wave 4chan culture, though. It's going to be unbearable.
It's been a long time since I had the dubious pleasure of having to work with Windows on a daily basis, so may I just say that I am newly appalled at how incredibly shoddy it is
There's a Cambridge Analytica moment and, though there are things that are frustrating about it to those who understand the issues, we should be trying to take advantage of it. Two points:
- bad for facebook means good for humanity, so let's make hay with that.
- campaigners on privacy/digital rights issues are typically not great at finding ways of reaching beyond their own peer group. You can't ignore the moments that cut through.
This whole thing with Cambridge analytica is a prime example of why we need decentralized social networks. If you own your data, then you can stop friends from sharing it with others. Incentives are completely different for apps built with privacy and decentralization at heart.

Loading all my files into a new linux install feels a bit like emptying full binbags all over the floor of a new apartment. Nothing will be clean ever again.
Is it the done thing to post links on here? I wrote a piece for issue 8 of limn magazine, on the logic of leaks and how they are read. Comments welcome! http://limn.it/the-logic-of-leaks-reconsidered/
