"I will slaughter you" - some emails penetrate even my thick open source maintainer skin. Like this threat.
@bagder Just a heads up: The mailto link on the redacted email address still seems to point to the unredacted email.
@bagder extremely sad to see that you are receiving these. You are an amazing person and upstream. Thank you for all the work for so many years.
As someone on the receiving end of email@example.com I totally get it -- but even in those cases my actual name isn't attached to the conversation. Rays of support and a (hopefully helpful) reminder that people in a state of deep emotional affect aren't able to think and reason logically. We should try to approach these cases not as attacks on us personally but as someone's blind and desperate lashing out at the world that hurt them.
@bagder @monsieuricon I agree with @monsieuricon that the attackers are likely desperate and lashing out out of pain, but at the same time, that doesn't make it OK for them to do so and subject innocent third parties to other pain.
It's not a good situation for anyone involved.
Knowing that doesn't make it better, of course.
Never, ever, ever, respond to that kind of email.
Second, other dude's lack of security is not your problem.
Are they running and looking at the logs from a locally-managed IDS?
Sit there and watch server logs run by on a regular basis so they see patterns?
Monitor status with nagios or similar?
Monitor bandwidth with MRTG, cacti or similar?
nmap their systems to see what's lurking?
If not, that dude should not kvetch when system is compromised.
@bagder wow. I wonder if he yelled at everyone else also, like the inventors of IP and ethernet maybe.
@fedops Doesn't sound like he has any idea what @bagder actually wrote the code to. One take away i got was the "RIP TERRY DAVIS" from the pdf. Which makes me assume this guy is either:
1) On some weird multilayered irony.
2) Actually severely mentally ill.
Terry was schizophrenic paranoid and actually believed his therapist was a CIA agent out to get him, and that god spoke trough him trough a program he wrote that ran a markov chain on the bible.
@bagder that license header is there for a reason. "No warranty something something". That should not be ignored. Apparently they read the name, but not the legal statements? :(
Server run by the main developers of the project It is not focused on any particular niche interest - everyone is welcome as long as you follow our code of conduct!
