"having a special and unique relationship with your own children" and "socialized communal childcare" aren't in contradiction. people really talk about the nuclear family as if your children being functionally your property hidden away from oversight and with no real recourse or basis for comparison should you decide to mistreat them is *necessary* to a meaningful relationship with your parents, rather than the biggest factor promoting child abuse in all forms
If this is a real thing do not even attempt to teach me about it. I just want to imagine it as a bunch of people rushing a throne and whoever sits down first gets to be the monarch for like a week before the whole thing starts over again.
The companies that commercialized these technologies get 'em for free, dodge their taxes, AND campaign against the very idea of government spending. They back a bizarre ideology that measures the economy with nonsensical measures like GDP.
Under GDP, public school teachers are a drain on the system, while the educated citizens they turn out are not accounted for at all.

Normal isn't good enough. It was never good enough. Normal got us into this mess.
We need to build back better: to create a moonshot for climate adaptation that uses a muscular, capable state to invest people and technologies.
A moonshot that structures the economy to produce the clean energy, infrastructure creation and retrofitting, transit, universal health care (and other forms of care), universal network access - a future fit for the human race.

pro tip for mastodon web interface
do you follow someone who is nice, but just boosts an overwhelming number of toots (like, maybe, me)? or maybe you like the person, but not the kinds of things they boost? there is a solution!
open their profile and click the 3-dot button (next to the Unfollow button). select the "Hide boosts from" option. boom, done. you will still see their toots, but no more of their boosts.
I do not know if this option is available in any of the apps.
its weird too me that people love to critcize communist experiments for failing to live up to their promises (even at the height of the USSRs decadence everyone still had guaranteed housing) but those same people would never say the same thing about capitalism, which promised universal prosperity in exchange for hard work and is currently experiencing several generational crises
"Facebook, Twitter And TikTok Say Wishing Trump's Death From COVID-19 Is Not Allowed"
That's what happens when you put all of your social media in the USA basket.
to be clear, i am not a practitioner of law in the united states and can't say for sure this wouldn't be fraud. it would, however, be extremely cool in either case
I thought tech is cool because I can make interesting things with it, can automate boring things away, etc, but the larger picture is that capitalists fucked everything up real bad, and most of the tech exists only to exploit people and sell more tech
“Donald Trump has increased the number of U.S. drone attacks on the African continent since becoming president, removing the limited restrictions that had been in place during the Obama era. The result has been a ramping up of civilian casualties leading to an increase in resentment and hatred which fuels militant recruitment.”
