“They want 1939 Germany but they're going to get 1789 France if they keep fucking around.”
@benroyce
Why exactly is Chuck Shumer now the scapegoat for the MAGA-induced mess?
all blame goes to maga
secondary blame goes to nonvoters
tertiary blame goes to spineless centrist dems
for our mess
i do agree though if someone spends all of their time dividing and conquering for the right, by attacking dems only and ignorinng maga, they're not even on the left, they're fake left, they're agent provocateur from the right
but that's not the guy in the video
anger at schumer is acceptable: he's completely out of touch
@benroyce @oliverboehme Do not forget the main architect who gave the shitbag the keys to everything with his 'immunity' and 'official duties' bullshit: #JohnRoberts is the primary villain. He and his cohort of rancid cunts #Alito #Gorsuch #Thomas and #Kavanaugh
@kristen_d @benroyce @oliverboehme Biden could have used the powers Roberts gave him to stop all of this.
I don't blame Biden for being unwilling to be the monster history required at that moment. But still - he could have prevented all of this.
@Amoshias @kristen_d @benroyce @oliverboehme Yes, he could have jailed Trump, jailed the Supreme Court. Or assassinated them. But he didn't want to the one to end America by making himself king. And sure, that only gave us a couple more months of America before Trump ended it, but
I understand Biden wanting to go out still the leader of a democratic nation.
@cherold @Amoshias @kristen_d @oliverboehme
biden was banking on the american people showing the fuck up and voting
biden didn't abandon america because he didn't bring a machine gun to the supreme court
americans abandoned america because "well biden should have done this and that and blah blah blah and that's my rationale for not doing shit, even the easiest fucking thing"
your leaders suck, america, BECAUSE YOU SUCK
@benroyce @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme I'm going to diverge from you here. (Not the last line though, we're in lockstep there.)
Simply sitting around and expecting Americans to vote for responsible kings until the end of time is not a rational plan. Biden needed to take action to make himself NOT A KING. That would have required him to do horrifying things, and he's not the man to have met that challenge.
@Amoshias @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme
agreed 100%
we can't just shame nonvoters, we need to give them something to believe in
i would like to think people have enough brains to understand strategy, but i understand cold calculation is not good enough
we need a real lefist candidate to put the fire in their belly
@benroyce @Amoshias @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme
We also need to recognize that to date, there is no personal financial incentive for Democrats in Congress to BE the opposition. They’ll keep doing what they’re doing, as long as the cash continues flowing into their pockets.
The only exceptions are people like Bernie Sanders and AOC, who don’t take corporate payouts. And that group is a truly minimal slice of the Congress pie.
@chessert @benroyce @Amoshias @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme and should really create a new party IYAM
@cmthiede @chessert @Amoshias @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme
it's far easier to take over the democrats from within
another party, if it ever eclipses the dems, you're looking at many elections of GOP dominance until then
because you've divided the left and we have a stupid fucking voting system
and in that time period MAGA will just kill democracy altogether
i'm simply pointing at the path of least resistance:
take over the dems
far far easier than another party
@benroyce @cmthiede @chessert @Amoshias @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme We even have prior art to show that works, because it's what happened to turn Reagan's GOP into MAGA.
@mark @benroyce @chessert @Amoshias @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme that took just over a decade, I even made art warning of where things were headed. Got plenty of laughs but not a whole lot of sales. People just don't seem to have the patience for that kind of long game.
@benroyce @chessert @Amoshias @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme I get that, but knowing Trump/MAGA was a bombshell that coopted the conservative cause creating an Orange Rhino, something similar needs to take place on the Dem level to compete. Everyone seems to be jockeying for the Presidency rather than changing from within. If people like Pete Buttigieg are willing to sit out, who's stepping up? The squad can't go it alone.
@cmthiede @chessert @Amoshias @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme
i agree 1,000%
MAGA killed centrist GOP
the left can kill centrist Dems
we have to
talk of 3rd parties is just suicide
because of our stupid fucking fptp voting system, that just divides the left and gives us more MAGA in charge
"well then you need to change your voting system"
yes and you can only do that when you're in power
@benroyce @chessert @Amoshias @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme it's all so complicated in a nation of immigrants, a nation of diversity. Something I don't see a whole lot of in any other country I've visited. Getting more people to vote is imperative. Absolutely. Too many don't care, or have just given up because no candidate has ever vibed with their ideals. Centrist Dems are what peel centrist Pubs away from Maga. Hard left energizes the progressives, sure, but also incentivises conservatives to lock arms in their higher cause. Some kind of biblical purity.
@benroyce @cmthiede @chessert @Amoshias @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme The final sentence is key.
@JamesK @cmthiede @chessert @Amoshias @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme
"that's illegal!"
{clap clap clap}
-nothing happens-
"why isn't anything happening?"
because youre not in power because not enough voted on the left
{next election}
"well i'm not voting because this candidate isn't perfect on everything. i'm so morally superior the world doesn't matter"
{a short time later}
"that's illegal!"
(rinse, repeat)
I keep thinking 'What IF people indeed had been voting but the elections have really been rigged this time?'
And now Trump wants to end voting via mail. It's all so bad.
@JamesK @cmthiede @chessert @Amoshias @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme
@benroyce
@cmthiede @chessert @Amoshias @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme
Yes. Take over the Dems, & start by ousting Schumer. Universal public Healthcare. Taxes on billionaires. There are a whole quiver full of good progressive positions.
The discussion about getting non-voters to vote is worth the ether it is written on. Paid time off, election day holiday + compulsory voting might get more to the polls. Abolish Citizens United. Get pacs, high dollar donors & corporations out of politics.
@mizblueprint @cmthiede @chessert @Amoshias @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme
"The discussion about getting non-voters to vote is worth the ether it is written on"
not a single fucking thing you listed is going to happen until nonvoters vote
it is never the case you get what you want, then you vote
it is always the case you vote, then you get what you want
@benroyce
@cmthiede @chessert @Amoshias @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme
I've knocked on tens of thousands of doors for my own campaigns, and for other candidates. I did not knock on doors where registered voters had not voted in the past 4 presidential elections, and had never voted in local elections. With a universe of 18k out of 27k, I only talked to those likely voters. Overcoming non-voter inertia is a big problem. I can enumerate the excuses I've heard, if you like.
@mizblueprint @cmthiede @chessert @Amoshias @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme
let me get a stiff drink first, i'm not ready to get that depressed
@mizblueprint @benroyce @cmthiede @chessert @Amoshias @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme " Overcoming non-voter inertia is a big problem." Especially if no one tries to talk to them...
@CStamp
@benroyce @cmthiede @chessert @Amoshias @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme
I think overcoming non-voter inertia is a Party problem. Individual candidates don't have the resources to persuade people to vote. Precinct Party level outreach can work - repeated encouragement from a known neighbor. Debunking myths like "voting doesn't matter" or "...but I don't want to be called for jury duty", or "I don't have time".
@mizblueprint @benroyce @cmthiede @chessert @Amoshias @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme I'd think it easier to talk to them at their door than expect them to suddenly pay attention to politics on the tv.
@CStamp @benroyce @cmthiede @chessert @Amoshias @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme
Yes, talking at the door can work. Phone outreach can work. GOTV (Get Out The Vote) workers need to be persistent. I started precinct walking & GOTV about 35 years ago.
@mizblueprint @benroyce @cmthiede @chessert @Amoshias @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme
Smart. Best use of limited resources.
@mizblueprint@mastodon.online @benroyce@mastodon.social @cmthiede@social.vivaldi.net @chessert@mastodon.online @Amoshias@esq.social @cherold@zirk.us @kristen_d@mastodon.social @oliverboehme@troet.cafe The "Meh Party" are a lost cause. They are so irretrievably wedded to their religious-faith-level conviction that all possible parties are equally bad, that they would rather go down with the ship than join any group that asks them to lift a single finger to help stop it. It's a strange kind of active apathy.
@mizblueprint @benroyce @chessert @Amoshias @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme I say go for it, a PSA of sorts. Then folks can cross-reference with their own neighborly discussions and find a way to move those people to the polls.
@benroyce @mizblueprint @cmthiede @chessert @Amoshias @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme Elie Mystal was on Fresh Air today talking about how our system is set up to deny us our right to vote. He was brilliant IMO.
If you listen to this, it will explain why voter turnout is so low in America. But it should also anger you so much that you NEVER skip an election ever again. I think it’s a must-listen.
@benroyce @cmthiede @chessert @Amoshias @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme
Although I have to wonder in some red locations, if running Independent and caucusing with Dems is the way to go. Some places don’t even have Dems running. Idc how it’s done as long as come election time there’s only one sane person running against a Republican, so votes don’t get divided.
@lucybeahere @cmthiede @chessert @Amoshias @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme
zero argument
i'm speaking in broad terms, there are specifics that argue for independents
@benroyce @cmthiede @chessert @Amoshias @cherold @kristen_d @oliverboehme
Yes, we are definitely in agreement. The most important thing is to unite against Republicans. We keep saying it, and the urgency of it grows all the time. The GOP is not just corrupt. These people are deliberately trying to rush us along towards the end, either for the rapture, or to capture all resources and create their own little bizarre states, complete with secure bunkers. They’re all nuts.
