What's a beautiful or interesting thing you have in your home that you'd recommend to others?

@benwerd an accoustic instrument, they look great on the wall and are fun to use together with your family.

@benwerd Fossils. They're collectible at every price-point - from a few bucks, to a few tens of thousands - and have wildly varying aesthetics, too. At their most abstract, they represent time and change. In the specific, weird and fascinating extinct creatures and primal forms. All rocks are ancient. But with fossils you know exactly *how* ancient they are.

-impractical but really fun/interesting things: a dance pole and a 5 foot bean bag. both are like having a playground in your house.

-Beautiful things: my daughter's oil paintings (she's an artist in London)

-Interesting and unusual things - I have a 4 ft iron sculpture of a tree that has candles on it. That is amazing to light - but takes care!

(and yes, my cello - if you play something, have that in your house! Music is wonderful!)

-impractical but really fun/interesting things: four cats. OK, maybe they're not really 'things'. But they're as impractical as you can get.

-Beautiful things: the house itself. It's only about 20 years old, but it has high ceilings and hand-made wood trim (including wood ceilings) throughout.

-Interesting and unusual things: my buddhas. I have four, each of which says something different to me.

Reflecting on this list tells me I haven't invested a lot into things.

@benwerd It's not for everyone, but I am delighted by the Vestaboard every day.

@aaronpk You have one!! That's amazing. I've been longingly gazing at them for years.

@benwerd My daughter bought a neon sign from a local junk store that appeared for mere seconds in a Jackie Chan movie filmed in Sydney. It says GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS and lights up my garden in three beautiful shades of pink and orange. She now lives with her girlfriend and I mourn the time she’ll take her sign to her new life.
