Tangentially related to LB, there's a Treehugger article today about what happens to old smartphones: treehugger.com/corporate-respo

I decided to point out in the comments that you can realistically run a current generation iPhone, at least as far as performance and security updates goes, for 5 years - the best Android phones can only do 3 years (and for single-threaded perf, a 3 yo flagship Android is about as fast as a 5 yo iPhone.)

Honestly, the only reason I've been sticking with Android devices is Android's flexibility, but the consistent 2 year single-threaded performance lead, and the improved update model of iOS, seriously make me want to take the jump when it's time to retire the Pixel XL.
