I think I'm going to go full degoogle and self host everything. I need a Google photos replacement. That's my last sticking point. Any suggestions?
@uranther yeah I've used nextcloud on and off since owncloud days, just wasn't sure if there was a photo specific self hosted app I was missing. Thanks for the info.
@uranther holy crap nextcloud has come a long way since my last use. Super impressed.
@biffbiffbiff look into hosting a nextcloud server at home, use an old laptop or something will more than enough to suffice. If i remember correctly the nextcloud app should have autosync of the pictures folder.
@jex I'm just gonna run as a VM on my homeserver and VPN in to my LAN so I don't have to leave 80/443/etc facing the internet. I could VPN into my vps and do conditional port forwards for it's static IP. Lots to consider.
@biffbiffbiff
disroot.org?
@helder thanks. Looking for selfhosted though, rather than having to trust yet another 3rd party. I know nextcloud can be setup in a TNO fashion, but I'd rather control the full stack.
@biffbiffbiff ownCloud/nextCloud have a number of photo syncing clients, that should get you core photo backup and *can* get you sharing with some fiddling
@biffbiffbiff I’m a big fan of seafile. Automatic backup for all photos and videos was the only feature that mattered to me though. IDK of anything that does the AI stuff if you want that.
@robert yeah the face tagging and object recognition in Google photos of proving an impossible feature to replace.
Resilio sync or Plex might do what you want.
@jeff thanks for info. I dropped Plex and swapped to emby after their weird privacy policy changes last year and prefer syncthing to BitTorrent sync. I'll revisit though and see if they give me better feature parity for my use case.
@biffbiffbiff Using #Nextcloud for now
