Shucks, I haven't updated in a few days. Umm... Move-out inspection went well, I used a week's worth of tips from covering at my old job to buy pants, a belt, and a wallet, and re-purchase a book that I loaned out three years ago to a friend who then lost it. My brother bought Far Cry so we're gonna play it together. And I'm like a week away from being able to have a day off doing nothing, for the first time in like a month. Then it's back to job hunting. Stoked to be able to chill for a day.
As disappointed as I am that Far Cry 5 misses the mark completely with its story, I was very much in the mood for a dumb shooty pew pew kaboom adventure and so far it's exactly that.
💖 weve all been here 💖

But also this string of toots has been me procrastinating on move-out cleaning, so now I need to get back to it.
Absolutely DON'T give me NOTIFICATIONS to take my attention AWAY from HORRIBLE CHORES THAT I HATE. It would just be TERRIBLE if I were to NOT DO THE CHORES.
I do think I've reached the point where I'll be sticking around, though. Even if it takes me a while to be able to completely delete Facebook, I just really like it here. In addition to all the fantastic privacy/tech reasons to be here, it's just a Good Place To Be In, which is critically important for retaining new users like myself.
And that's because of everyone reading this! Good job, Mastodon community! I like y'all!
Regarding FB pages/events/marketplace/etc, the biggest hurdle is migrating people from a website that does it all (because it has the means to do so) to a bunch of different open source alternatives where they need separate accounts and to rebuild their friends list on each one.
I'm optimistic, but certain features of FB are vital for being in touch with my city's music scene and booking shows out of town, letting followers know when we're in the studio, and so on.
Baby steps, I guess!
I think I'll fully be able to #deletefacebook once Mastodon has good options for events/ways to let people know what my band is up to. That's the biggest boundary. I think what I'll end up doing is deleting my account, and then making a new one with no personal info on it just to keep track of my band's page, that's something I've done in the past for my high school garage bands.
That's the tricky thing of Mastodon being more of a Twitter style than FB style, but we'll figure something out.
Since the Facebook debacle I have:
Deleted Facebook
Deleted Twitter
Cut back everything Google to just gmail
Dumped the chrome browser
Switched from windows to Linux Mint
Started using Firefox
Started using Proton Mail
Quit being a product, starve big tech where your information is concerned.
new to Mastodon. I have no idea what i'm doing.

Which is cool, because I finished a full stack JavaScript bootcamp awhile ago and have yet to land my first web development job. So there's a lot of "learning through doing" that I'm unable to do, but reading through a lot of the discourse here feels incredibly educational.
Learning a lot about the internet from all the smart folks here.
