I don't want to use #Messenger because #Facebook, not Hangouts because #Google, not #WhatsApp because #Facebook, not #Signal because rather cumbersome.

What alternatives are there? Telegram, although not #opensource? #XMPP?

@drbjork If you value, Free Software, decentral, independent, federated, then and are probably the best options. Although I would give XMPP more points in the category "independent". might be interesting in the future as well.
