@bkastl this is interesting I received an email on another company I don't remember right now saying they were doing the same on may 25th. What does it mean?
@Moneykavegas it means (more or less): companies that want to operate in the EU would need to update their privacy policy or / and technology to be conform to the EU data protection requirements (GDPR) going active may 25th. Some don’t want to make that effort and close their services for EU citizens or the entire service of not necessary any more
@bkastl ok thank you. Soooooo they are really trying to shut us out then?
@Moneykavegas it depends. in the case of klout the service was dead already, so may 25th was just a trigger to close it completely (maybe). Other service like unroll.me just shut out EU citizens https://techcrunch.com/2018/05/05/unroll-me-to-close-to-eu-users-saying-it-cant-comply-with-gdpr/
@Moneykavegas but most services do something to be GDPR compliant. no need to worry in general except some weird exceptions
@bkastl I thought it was weird, then you brought it up. I was like dang she was thinking the same thing I was. I just didn't know what it meant exactly.
@bkastl the company that bought it a few years ago (lithium technologies?) only wanted its AI and machine learning assets, and i think they're still keeping something called "reach" which is also built on klout's tech?
it's entirely possible (but not confirmed) that lithium couldn't be arsed to rewrite any privacy policies or do any sort of restructuring in the face of gdpr and basically said "eh, fuck it, shut it down"
