We're incredibly honored to announce that #Ghost (@index) has become a formal sponsor of Fedify through Open Collective!

This is a significant milestone for our project, and we're deeply grateful to @johnonolan and the entire Ghost team for their support and recognition of our work in the #ActivityPub ecosystem.

Ghost's social web integration built on #Fedify is a perfect example of how open standards can connect different publishing platforms in the fediverse. Their backing over the past months has been invaluable, and this formal sponsorship will help ensure Fedify remains sustainable as we continue to develop and improve the framework.

If you're building with ActivityPub or interested in federated applications, please consider joining Ghost in supporting open source development through our Open Collective:

https://opencollective.com/fedify

Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us maintain and enhance the tools that make the fediverse more accessible to developers. Thank you for being part of this journey with us! :fedify: ❤️ :ghost:

MastodonJohn O'Nolan (@johnonolan@mastodon.xyz)Attached: 1 image Ghost's social web integration is built on the fantastic work of @hongminhee@hollo.social and the Fedify.dev framework. We've been backing work on the project for 6 months or so, and now we're thrilled to be formal sponsor of the project on Open Collective! If you're building with Fedify and ActivityPub, please consider joining us to keep helping to make great open source work sustainable ❤️ Every little helps

PeerTube is really impressive.

It's been a great place to post all our Dot Social videos because anyone can follow @dot_social and then comment and repost our episodes using any ActivityPub compatible app/platform. Rather than relying solely on the YouTube algo for discovery, these videos get discovered via a myriad of ways that are for more organic and sustainable.

Anyone who cares about getting their videos discovered and building an audience they actually own should also be posting their videos on PeerTube and getting folks to follow them there.

At long last, the most-requested feature I’ve had over the last many years: you can now subscribe to get my blog posts by email. It’s totally free, there are never any ads or sponsored content, you can unsubscribe any time, I’ll never sell your email address, it’s 100% guaranteed there will never be any cross-promotion of fascists on the platform, and there are more than 25+ years of archives to explore. anildash.com/

We often have these YouTube sound channels on while we read. They have little partially animated scenes that repeat.

At the end of the night, we count how many candle fire hazards and/or ridiculous architectural choices have been made.

Old married life. 😅

It's almost the end of the month and that means new bills for the servers! We have various expenses and moderation work unfortunately eats up a lot of time :blobcatnotlikethis: :boost_requested:

:liberapay: LiberaPay
:paypal: PayPal
:kofi: Ko-Fi
:patreon: Patreon

Our services will always remain free, but support for the costs, so that the whole thing can run in the long term and finance itself, I highly welcome :blobcatmeltlove:

For a longer explanation of the costs and other donation options, see here!

MastodonDEmastodon.de :MastodonDE: (@MastodonDE@mastodon.de)**Explanation of the operating expenses of mastodon.de** [German version](https://mastodon.de/@MastodonDE/110810936592028856) *Monthly charges* :blank: • Electricity: 139.73 € :blank: • Cloud servers: 86.19 € :blank: • Internet: 35.00 € :blank: • Domain(s): 10.92 € :blank: • Email: 5.00 € **Total: 276.84 € / month** You can [view many popular options to donate](https://mastodon.de/@MastodonDE/110808633497349326) here! :liberapay: :kofi: :patreon: :paypal: And here is an exact [chronological list of all expenses and donations](https://mastodon.de/@MastodonDE/111737398475692330). How does it all fit together?
# Electricity cost We pay ~0.19 € / KWh, the rack for #MastodonDE consumes ~0.9 KW, but also ~1.2 KW at peak operation, so we calculate with a usage of 1.0 KW. So 1.0 KW × 0.1941 € / KWh × 24h × 30 days = **139.73 € / month**.
# Cloud servers ## Root server For the mastodon.de instance we use a Hetzner root server (`AX52 | Upgrade to DDR5 ECC RAM | Primary IPv4`) which costs 80.92 € / month. ## Web server For the website join-mastodon.de we use a separate Hetzner cloud server ('CPX11 | x86 | 40 GB | eu-central'), so that the site is independent from the rest of our infrastructure. This web server costs 5.20 € / month. In total we pay **86.19 € / month** for the servers.
# Internet Some of the servers are operated in @ErikUden's private home and therefore also use his internet connection. Since the company behind it, Uden UG (*limited liability*), can also be reached by telephone via this combined contract, this is included in the price. We have the *Red Internet & Phone 1000 Cable* from Vodafone with **1150 Mb/s download and 56.7 Mbit/s upload, this costs 70 € / month**. 70 € / 2 = 35 €. So MastodonDE pays **35 € / month for an internet connection**.
*Domain(s)* :blobfoxcomputerowo: The domains and instances operated by the MastodonDE network: :blank: • mastodon.de (*5.00 € / year*) :blank: ╚═>IONOS :blank: • join-mastodon.de (*5.00 € / year*) :blank: ╚═>IONOS :blank: • fediverse.gay (*28.14 € / year*) :blank: ╚═>Namecheap :blank: • fediver.su (*5.59 € / year*) :blank: ╚═>Regery :blank: • fedive.ru (*3.39 € / year*) :blank: ╚═>Regery :blank: • ostfriesland.social (*29.05 € / year*) :blank: ╚═>Namecheap :blank: • fediblock.wiki (*24.50 € / year*) :blank: ╚═>Namecheap :blank: • pixelfed.party (*25.41 € / year*) :blank: ╚═>Namecheap :blank: • beertu.be (*4.99 € / year*) :blank: ╚═>Regery Total domain costs: :blank: • 125.36 € / year :blank: • **~10.92 € / month**
*E-mail* We use the one (1) mailbox email business offer from IONOS for [info@mastodon.de](mailto:info@mastodon.de) which costs **5 € / month**.

***A total of 276.84 € / month*** With this money we could run MastodonDE if: - No device or server ever breaks and needs to be replaced - Storing the backups externally would not cost any money - We never need external help - We never get into legal problems - No one is paid for work on the project or previous expenses are paid As you can easily see when reading this article, the **276.84 € is really only to cover the costs of optimal operation**. When this value is reached, there are no more costs that we are left with, which, in addition to our time, we would like to spend on this project, but may not be able to spend forever. In the long term, MastodonDE will become its own e.V. **to ensure that as a platform we will always remain ad-free, algorithm-free, data theft, anti-commercial and anti-capitalist!** To make this possible we need donations of 276.84 € / month. You can view [all the options to donate](https://mastodon.de/@MastodonDE/110808633497349326) here! **Once this bill is covered, MastodonDE will run long-term!** :erikuden: :MastodonDE:

Updated my home lab servers to the latest Ubuntu LTS (Numbat) and ran into an issue with my backup system.

Somehow, the installation of borgmatic got hosed, and backups stopped happening - luckily, BorgBase was set to alert me after 2 missed backups.

Then I found out there was an issue with my entire IceShrimp.NET DB backup - the dump wasn't dumping..for over a year now. 🙀 Fixed! It's just a single user, test instance but still.

Hi! It’s damian. I sent out a bunch of follows based on who I “think” I was following in my kitty social account (I’m sure I forgot some and added others I wasn’t following haha, sorry…I’m not really on top of this stuff)…but spun up this account in case kitty.social is a longer term outage.

I don’t have any backups (I need to get better at that), so I may have lost everything, but the important thing is the friends we made along the way! …but I may have lost all of those too
🙈😆😆😆
Anyway, just some context as to why you got a follow request from someone that appeared to (I think) be following you already.

Proceed to accept, disregard, or block as you see fit. Just know that I will continue to think the world of you regardless.
🥰

And the incident with the restraining order, and me wearing a dinosaur costume while playing the tuba in your backyard at 2 am? You were completely justified in your actions…and your stamina when it came to throwing things at me from a 2nd floor window was unparalleled!! And your accuracy? Breathtaking.

Anyway, stay tuned for more sketches, doodles,
#fountainpen and #3goodthings related posts soon.

I had a little table demoing ohmygit.org, a Git-learning game which @bleeptrack and I built back in 2020/2021! :)

I checked the numbers, and apparently it has been downloaded *175000 times* since then, which I wouldn't have imagined in my wildest dreams. Glad that it's still helpful for people!

(And to point that out, I've done many, *many* projects that completely flopped and never got much visibility at all!)

Big change coming in my home lab - keeping my work mule Synology DS718+ but upgrading from two 4 TB to two 20 TB drives. No more daisy chaining additional USB drives! (One of the drives died a few weeks ago)

This Synology is my "don't f it up" "family will scream if it's down" system, separate from my ProxMox "let's see what crazy thing I can blow up today" system.

If you want to share an account without sharing its email/password you can do it with #Fedilab
You just have to create a token with the Mastodon Web UI (you can customize access read/write).
In the login page of Fedilab there is an option to authenticate an account with a token.
