a reiterated rant, in miniature:
if on firefox: install https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/livemarks/
if you have any remaining hope for the web: i sort of envy you.
@brennen I feel like RSS will stick around anyways if only as an aggregation API for user-facing services like Google and Apple News and such.
(But yeah, as someone who runs a Nextcloud instance primarily for RSS/Atom reading, I feel ya.)
@keithzg yeah, i mean, if changes to date haven't killed it, this certainly won't either (if only because firefox is on borrowed time and no one actually cares at this point what mozilla does about anything aside from maybe rust because google's well-orchestrated leveraging of its near-monopoly powers has eliminated most of the firefox userbase and mozilla's flailing incomprehension of its remaining users is handily taking care of the rest).
@brennen Yeah Firefox seems very neglected. Even just something as simple as actually using my desktop environment's File Open dialog, Chrome and Chromium do it, but nobody at Mozilla gives enough of a crap to support that.
@brennen It certainly doesn't help either that Gecko remains essentially impossible to embed, so basically every third-party browser out there uses WebKit/Blink as the engine and so the network effect makes anything else far less appealing.
(This is a longstanding problem; KHTML was adopted by Apple in the first place because this weirdo Linux-only engine for KDE's default browser . . . was nonetheless designed to be more portable than Mozilla's offering.)
