Do you have a favorite notebook to write in? Preferably something not much smaller than 8.5 by 11 inches, lined, and that stays open.

@schlink more expensive than a composition book, but the leuchtturm1917 stuff is my default purchase right now. basically a moleskine but all around higher quality and with more attention to detail.
lays flat, has a couple of bookmarks, page numbers, some tear-out pages in back, pocket, elastic strap, decent paper. i think they make a lined one. soft and hardcover variants exist. i buy a couple at a time because i dread the day when they go out of business or quality falls off.
