This is a part from the book I just bought (I have it from the college library, but I need to return it today). Apparently the matter of "producing beer was women's work"! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’ž

The book is "Mushrooms, mold, and miracles", which is about fungi, the science of them and how they've affected humans. mastodon.social/media/a8CICOMg

@bthall I read Chanterelle Dreams, Amanita Nightmares earlier this year. It was a great book on the history and culture of mushroom foraging and use in various places around the world.

@jojo !!! I'll look that up! Thanks for letting me know about it!

@bthall @jojo I'm curious what effect we've had on fungi? Humans have drastically changed plants and animals through selective breeding over the ages. Has anything similar happened with fungi, do you know?

@Jirikiha @bthall It's a good question. I know there were Victorian attempt to eradicate the Phallus Impudicus mushroom because of its supreme impropriety. They were unsuccessful.

@Jirikiha @jojo Not that I know of on a large scale, but industrial/commercial use of fungi has definitely led to changes.

Here's an interesting discussion I just found about domestication of wild yeast for beer production: mobile.twitter.com/larsga/stat
