I've posted a new article to my emulator development site about ways to structure the hierarchy of an emulator. It's especially useful for aspiring multi-system emudevs. It also includes a bit of history on bsnes and higan, if you're interested in that.

@byuu I just read your blog post and as usual it’s very good.

Reading it makes me wonder if a UI à la unreal engine shader modeler wouldn’t be easy enough. Having blocks representing the game consoles, add-ons and game controllers and drawing lines to plug them. (a bit hard to explain).

It’s very probably quite hard to code but i think it could be quite intuitive to use.
