First poll of #debphoshfund (Fund #Debian on Mobile with #Phosh as interface choice) is about picking a maps/navigation app and so far #GNOME Maps is leading the poll with 27% votes and Organic Maps got 23%. This poll is open till September 24th and anyone interested in a good maps/navigation app for GNU/Linux on mobile is invited to join this group and vote https://codema.in/d/phU1JlaV/pick-and-fund-a-maps-app #mobian Only a small number of people have voted so far, more participation would be better.
@praveen
I searched for the privacy policy of this "codema.in" service but it is not on the "Create account" page.
If I go to the same page on loomio.com there is one.
It would be better to have it on codema.in on the same fashion.
I am not the best person to vote as I am not a mobile Linux user but I preferred to comment anyway that I am reluctant to engage further on platforms collecting personal data without a privacy policy.
@canard164 it is maintained by https://fsci.in and until now it was mostly used by the community itself so we did not make the privacy policy explicit. It will be similar to other services we run, for example https://poddery.com/privacy.html but we will create a page specifically for codema.in as well. @akshay
@praveen
I appreciate you are taking my comment into account.
I do not know Poddery but there is no list of personal data collected in the privacy policy. In Codema.in, I expect at least the e-mail address, maybe profile information, maybe IP address if you are logging that...
Then I expect to find why you collect each personal data listed. Then how it is stored and for how long. And how I can delete it.
@akshay
@canard164 @akshay thanks for the specific suggestions, we have a volunteer to create this page and we hope to do it soon https://codema.in/d/kfdzGvl1/create-a-privacy-policy-for-codema-in @stultus
@canard164 @akshay poddery.com offer #diaspora #xmpp and #matrix services. We did not ask email as mandatory (but due to spam we have closed registrations) when registration was open. People can use these services for personal messaging, and we recommend end to end encryption so even we/admins don't see any plain text / unencrypted data.
@praveen @akshay
All personal data that you may collect, whether mandatory or not, should be included in the privacy policy. Same for personal data that MAY be encrypted: in case they are not encrypted in a specific case for whatever reason, they should be included. But it is a good thing to recommend end to end encryption anyway to limit personal data you have access to.
@praveen @akshay
By the way, you are not alone! I red this research paper a few days ago regarding privacy policies in Mastodon instances: https://www.petsymposium.org/popets/2024/popets-2024-0138.pdf
In the conclusion:
"Since policy selection and management tasks are already challenging for expert compliance professionals, it is no
surprise that the average Mastodon administrator would struggle,
too."
