Cassian
hello esteemed fediverse, please welcome the dell venue 8 pro.

this distinguished <del>e-waste</del> functional tablet originally shipped with a 32bit version of windows 8, alongside a whopping gig of RAM.

because windows 8 is so out of date i wasn't even able to install firefox for some light web browsing, i opted to try and find a linux distro to install.

after two days of trial and error running through every distro this incredibly helpful guide recommended, i finally ended up with zorin os 15 lite. i tried various other distros, including ubuntu mate, lubuntu, and elementary os, but zorin was the only one that managed to install correctly - in spite of having its boot usb forcefully removed near the end of installation. go figure.

at this point, it seems to be mostly functional. the battery indicator and rotation aren't working (yet), and more pressingly the virtual keyboard isn't working either. still, it's been a fun thing to experiment with.
