I had my passport renewed (yay!) and I noticed that Italian passports now have the text of Article 23 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the #EuropeanUnion printed at the end.
The article extends consular protection to all the EU citizens that are in a foreign country where any EU member has a diplomatic representative.
For instance, Italy has no embassies in North Korea, but I am entitled to consular protection in Pyongyang through the Swedish embassy.
Isn't it awesome?

I too hope that the European Union is gonna last, but it seems a more and more desperate hope. Step by step, country after country, EU-skeptics and EU-haters seem to be taking over everything. The EU is unraveling, it's being torn apart by populism and nationalism and the effects of globalization, and the mainstream political class seems incapable to confront those big problems. There are a few bold exceptions (Draghi, Macron), but they are too few to turn the tide.
