As for universities as coops, I remember a motto by Marco Pannella (he would be considered a liberal but ehy): "Not just freedom of teaching but also freedom of learning"
Meaning that students should be free of choosing the University or the professor they prefer
I am also elated by the idea of reproducible science in that I could not only read a paper but also run the software on the same data and verify the results
@catonano yeah that's more and more possible with open source code that does not require much computational power to be run, that's not always the case ofc but it's definitely doable. the source code should be always released with every academic paper, if code is part of it, imo, open source should be the only option for academia
@catonano yeah the need to critically rethink the academic establishment is indeed a huge topic of discussion. and not only in terms of challenging neoliberal values but also challenging the very colonial framework of Western universities
