What are some good music software?

@thefishcrow If you're on ubuntu, check out the list of packages that come with ubuntu studio. (or switch to that distro? you can install whatever window manager you're currently using)

Ardour is a full DAW. Audacity is good for small tasks. There are a bunch of good synthesisers, like Hydrogen for drums.

You may want to look at sonic Pi as a different approach to beats.
