My friend spent a year working on some Microsoft word file without making any backups or revision control. She had autosave and recovery turned off. Yesterday, she accidentally posted her two new paragraphs over all her old work and hit save and quit before she noticed she'd done this. Is there any software that can fix this?

@celesteh I guess "undo" doesn't work after you closed the file? :/

@celesteh looks like a complete nightmare to me. The only thing that I can think of is some disk rescue software (testdisk/PhotoRec) that can look at any residue on the disk itself. But I highly doubt this is actually possible. Once a file is overwriten, I think there is nothing on the drive left that could contain old data. But it might also depend on the filesystem. And I'm not an expert.
