Hi, guys. I've been quiet here because I've been playing around on (@aaronrosspowell.com), which is a lot of fun.

@arossp That is nice though it is not clear what you mean.

Have you not been having fun here?

@Slathe The culture at Bluesky is a lot better and more fun. Mastodon tends to be dour, with an over-abundance of scolds. New users come away with a sense that the old users just wish they would go away, and if they won't go away, then they damn well better not violate, intentionally or unintentionally, any of the old guard's strict cultural norms. Bluesky feels like a bunch of people excited to have found each other.

@arossp @Slathe I haven't had any issues here, personally. Also... not a chance in hell i move over to another Jack Dorsey project after he whored out all of twitter (read, a large percent of the internet) to Elon Musk. Dorsey cannot be trusted. I think everyone going over there is a damn fool.

@chaoddity @Slathe There's no one to trust. It's an open protocol. The worst that could happen is the existing Bluesky server does bad stuff, but AT Protocol make it easy (much easier than Mastodon) to move to another server, and take all your content and connections with you.

@arossp @Slathe
The fact that it is 'by invite only' does not exactly scream 'open' to me. lol

Also they will inevitably will develop monetization schemes and it is very likely it will involve blockchain/nft garbage.

There are benefits to mastodon as well.
Including:
1- no ads whatsoever
2- no algorithm. your main page is only people you are specifically interested in seeing
3- the whole ecosystem is completely open.

im not buying the hype, im sorry. I'll wait and watch.

Is it easy to set up a server to federate with the rest of Bluesky? I’ve had a quick look and from what I can tell it’s not possible (yet?).

@justin @Slathe @chaoddity My understanding is federation isn't turned on yet, because the platform code is in such an early state. If I remember correctly, the CEO said they needed "a couple of months" to get things where they want them.
