Chee Aun 🤔

✅ Saw Threads API announcement threads.net/@mosseri/post/C8Wa
✅ Read the docs developers.facebook.com/docs/t
✅ Tried Threads API via sample app github.com/fbsamples/threads_a
✅ After a few debugging and clicking many buttons, made a post from the API threads.net/@cheeaun/post/C8Wy
✅ Found typo in sample app repo doc, made a PR github.com/fbsamples/threads_a

That's all, for now.

@cheeaun honestly I would probably use Threads a bit if I got to use it through Phanpy

@liaizon @cheeaun foof that reply thread in the announcement is uh.... why I don't want to go anywhere near threads lol

@liaizon @cheeaun honest question though- why do we want to welcome facebook into this ecosystem with a high-quality third-party client?

I feel like the Twitter API debacle should've taught us what we need to know about building software on top of corporate social media's APIs.

@vesto @cheeaun I don't want to "welcome them" but for whatever reason I already have hundreds of "real friends" who actively are using threads cause it was promoted from inside of Instagram (the only social app they use) and I would like to be able to see and interact with AFK friends from the apps/clients of my choice. I have spent *years* trying to convince friends to come over to the fediverse instead of just IG/FB and I have given up trying to do that.

@liaizon sorry- was referring more to making Phanpy work as a Threads client instead of using Threads itself. I can sympathize with that dichotomy of despising Facebook yet needing to use their products to stay in touch- I have and use WhatsApp after all. Network effects are incredibly strong.

Moreso my question is towards app developers like @cheeaun who are doing insanely good work for the Mastodon ecosystem. I'd be curious as to the mindset of wanting to allow FB to benefit from that work.
