After a nice string of zero-case days, one new #covid19 case: an American who did not self-isolate on arrival and ended up infecting someone from PEI who then returned, did not self-isolate, and infected two more people there. https://novascotia.ca/news/release/?id=20200706003
Another streak of zero-case days in NS broken by a single case two days ago: https://novascotia.ca/news/release/?id=20200715005 —an asymptomatic case from a guy who was in the ER for an unrelated reason and just happened to be tested. This means community spread is still lurking even with the low case count. Sneaky sneaky virus. Zero new cases since then.
who could have predicted this unexpected catastrophe when Vegas reopened prematurely
15 day streak of zero-case days in Nova Scotia broken: two cases, travel-related, both self-isolating. https://www.halifaxtoday.ca/coronavirus-covid-19-local-news/nova-scotia-announces-two-new-covid-19-cases-friday-2605569
Meanwhile Nova Scotia is on Day 11 of no new cases (longer if you don't count travel cases) and the two latest positives are now resolved: https://www.halifaxtoday.ca/coronavirus-covid-19-local-news/day-11-of-no-new-reported-covid-19-cases-in-nova-scotia-2634756
But then Auckland, New Zealand got new cases after 102 days covid-free so there are still no guarantees. https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/300082167/coronavirus-two-confirmed-cases-of-covid19-in-tokoroa-family-of-up-to-30-selfisolating
NS zero-case streak over, one new case reported in the "Northern Zone" which covers the point at which NS meets NB, plus Truro, Pictou, New Glasgow, Amherst, Tatamagouche: https://www.halifaxtoday.ca/coronavirus-covid-19-local-news/one-new-case-of-covid-19-announced-in-nova-scotia-friday-2637231

I'm back at the office again (masks, distancing, everyone has their own offices, lots of hand sanitizer) and I just got some office coffee and am painfully aware of how many people's fingers are involved in every step of this process
One new #covid19 case yesterday, in NS Central Zone -- which is pretty much Halifax, 'roni is back in the 'fax, baby https://novascotia.ca/news/release/?id=20200820002 (but zero new cases today)
covid19, atlantic canada
NS has been at no more than 1-3 new #covid19 cases per day since June, mostly stretches of up to 2 weeks w/ 0 new cases. Schools open for a month now with no spread. Outside of arriving travelers (mostly isolating) we're *probably* safe? Public distancing/masking requirements remain, out of a wise abundance of caution.

We're now very glad that we moved to NS in particular; there's been a strong local sense of community and civic responsibility in the face of this pandemic that's been key to keeping it down here -- although I fear this will not last, as cases are starting to rise in other Atlantic provinces and especially the rest of Canada. Plus, NS has its share of anti-masking plaguelords.
(I'm trying to not even think of the US here.)
anyway, frig off https://youtu.be/K2IWafjn9p0
After 5 months of 0-3 (mostly zero) new cases per day and total active #covid19 cases in NS staying safely in single digits, 7 new cases over weekend and active cases back over 10 feels like a huge spike.
At least one of those cases was an isolation-exempt essential worker who exposed a trucker rest stop: http://www.nshealth.ca/news/potential-covid-19-exposure-glenholme-restaurant
And an r/halifax poster mentions a roommate's coworker at a call centre testing positive: https://www.reddit.com/r/halifax/comments/jmc9ag/roommates_office_coworker_tested_positive_today/
someone's excuse for sick leave seems to have spiraled out of control

Relative spike in new cases for NS; six is a lot for a province that has averaged 0-3 since June. https://novascotia.ca/news/release/?id=20201114001

covid19, elon musk, twitter link
lol elon musk gonna dunning-kruger aerosolized virus at everyone near him because his rapid tests threw a couple false negatives
welp covid is now in our schools, and not just any schools but two schools in our immediate neighbourhood: https://novascotia.ca/news/release/?id=20201116006
While municipal government piddles about with expected deadly normalcy-bias-driven inaction, we've pulled the kid out of pre-k; he's now throwing a beach ball at me repeatedly while i try to work
Second case at local high school: https://novascotia.ca/news/release/?id=20201119008 —so that school and all its feeders are closed today. (Although ours was already no-school today for assessments, but now staff have to stay home too)

*pop* provinces are now pulling out of the atlantic bubble as the second wave hits https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/atlantic-bubble-burst-1.5812454
Someone start a rumour that the COVID19 vaccinations are designed to be contagious and that recipients of the shot exhale aerosolized vaccine particles; then watch the antivax/antimaskers suddenly all masking up
(actually never mind that, rumour would probably backfire and convince others to not get the shot since they'd think they can just get it from the air)
saw someone ask "how do people still not realize how serious #covid19 is, why do they still think it's a hoax, why are they so resistant to masks" and the answer is simple:
they're racist as shit
they still think it's "the china flu" and masks are a thing asians wear, but as strong superior whites they are naturally immune and even if they get it they can bravely resist chinese germs, and if anyone else catches it from them and dies they were prob inferior stock anyway
