TIL potatoes are members of the nightshade family and closely related to tomatoes.

Potato flowers look like tomato flowers except for color - tomato flowers are yellow, but potato flowers are white, lavender, or pink.

Potatoes only go to fruit in cold wet summers. A potato fruit looks like a green cherry tomato, but is highly toxic. Planted potato seeds take years to grow into a plant with edible tubers, which is why they are normally grown asexually by planting the tubers.

out[lut[i]] = in[i] lookups take 4x longer than out[i] = in[lut[i]] lookups!

Great, now I have to redesign and test my C code, since I wrote my assembly thinking my LUT was inverted (which by coincidence matched for 8-point transforms, but not for 16!).

4 times longer! Ouch! Glad I caught this now.

@Hyolobrika @Moon
When a project is making these kinds of claims, there's a 0.01% chance they made a significant breakthrough and 99.9% chance it's just a token that's issued from what is essentially a faucet.

Don't get me wrong, tokens are awesome because of the flexibility they can provide, but they're not decentralized.

Can someone explain how "Proof-of-(Staked)-Authority" (#PoA / #PoSA) #cryptocurrency networks can possibly be decentralised?
> To make eligibility for staking identity hard to obtain, candidates for validators have to overcome the hurdle of passing notary exams. Not only do the exams attest to no criminal records and good moral standing of a candidate, they also filter out those who are not committed.

Who sets these exams? Who decides who is and who is not trustworthy?

Been hearing a lot about the evolution of the FF logo, but this was unexpected...

@cryptpad Someone commented to me that it would be nice if the "would you like to store this pad" was not a popup because it distracts. Maybe instead use a prominent button in the interface ?

Can you tell V8 firing orders from split-radix FFT permutes without looking?
Mark firing orders with a tick!

the stockholder model of business creates all the wrong incentives. stocks incentivise speculation and growth at all costs. bonds (tradable loans) should be the only means of investing in a company.

bonds would incentivise growth because the company would want to pay the them down as fast as possible. once they are paid down, the pressure to grow is gone, and the company is free of obligations.

for the investor, there are two opposite incentives: if the company grows too slowly, it may default on the bonds. if it grows too quickly, the bonds will be less profitable, and buying new bonds will be the only way of extracting more profit. the company remains in control because it decides whether it wants to sell bonds or not.

these bonds would typically sell for the balance remaining on them or less. you would typically only sell a bond if you have lost faith in the liquidity of the company.

a concept of owning shares could exist, but only as a means of exerting influence on the company. shares would not be traded, only transferred. having a 25% share in the company would give you a 25% vote in the general assembly and nothing else. it would primarily be a tool for transferring influence. holding bonds and shares at the same time would not be permitted in this model. arrangements that try to circumvent this rule would also be prohibited; the idea being that money must not be traded for influence.

crowd loaning platforms operate on a principle similar to this. it's a viable way of financing a business.

it would do much good in the world if stocks as we know them were banned.

What do you call an ecosystem which is both collaborative AND competitive ?
Like internet operators who need bid against eachother for customers but also need to interconnect in order to have anything to provide...

The thing that makes different it that it's Adversary-Tolerant Decentralized Routing.

Routing is easy if you're sure all routers in the network are friendly.
