not convinced mastodon is a such a departure from the issues social media has but I do love being able to post loads of shit like the good old days
@zaccolley definitely addresses some issues but not all. First l, decentralization is massively important. I want to “own” my own social network, not lease is from a corporation. No ads... massive! Fewer bots and nutjobs as a percentage of users... gargantuan! Remaining issues: social media takes alll of our statements out of context, sometimes making it harder to actually understand people’s perspectives
@coachdrewglobal yeah all good stuff, I'm thinking of the issues around posting things for satisfaction of engagement (likes, follows etc)
@zaccolley one of the first things I noticed is that #mastodon is feeling the same semi-compulsive need I’ve developed to check something! Its made taking a break from #Twitter waaaaay easier. But am I swapping out #heroin for #methodone?
