โ ๏ธ Mastodon is not anti-Nazi, or anti-harassment. (Not even Mastodon.Social is very anti-harassment.) Anyone can run an instance, including Nazis. Including abusers. Including techbros who don't give a shit.
This is why your choice of instance matters. Know who your admin is. Check your blocklist. Check the code of conduct.
Not everyone cares about your safety, and no one is really required to.
Be kind. Be careful. Punch Nazis.
@GinnyMcQueen disagree a lil bit abt anti-harassment; seems to me like there's some top-level design decisions made to reduce harassment, like the way the search function works? but yr right absolutely
@crowinacastle "disagree a lil bit abt anti-harassment"
You seem to be confusing Mastodon and Mastodon.Social.
@GinnyMcQueen not confusing i don't think? it was ambiguous mayb, but i was referring specifically to mastodon and not mastodon.social
@crowinacastle I'm clearly a little confused with what you are trying to say in response to my point.
Nothing I said has to do with the technical functions of how Mastodon works. Sighting the search function as anti-harassment is not the point I was making at all.
The tech doesn't matter if the admin is abusive.
@GinnyMcQueen sure, ppl in charge is always going to be the biggest factor in how "safe" for lack of a better word a given instance is, but i do think that software structure can alleviate or enable to a certain degree abuse and mastodon seems better than twitter in that sense. but yr broad point is right and that's awesome of you! thanks fr putting in that work ::33
@GinnyMcQueen better than twitter is a low bar, it's true
