‘Stephen Hawking’s final words to the internet: robots aren’t the problem, capitalism is’
“If machines produce everything we need, the outcome will depend on how things are distributed. Everyone can enjoy a life of luxurious leisure if the machine-produced wealth is shared, or most people can end up miserably poor if the machine-owners successfully lobby against wealth redistribution.”

(a colleague who should have known better took my reports off the printer and put them in the recycling. "they were sitting there for hours, I didn't think anyone wanted them." they print at midnight? I pick them up when I need them?)
If a democracy relies on an informed citizenry, what happens when you've only got a misinformed citizenry?

@pzmyers Billy Graham was a terrible person, but it's hard to say that without remembering that his son Franklin is so much worse that we have to get out the log-log plots to put them on the same axes.

actually it's kind of interesting to think of mastodon as a twitter do-over, because it would probably behoove us all to consider what mistakes twitter did and how we can avoid them.
also apparently I snore more than I thought I did but I really need to try the recording sometime when Hubby isn't home to sort out what's me and what isn't.
For the past week or so I've been using a sleep tracking app, with an alarm set off to go at the best point in the sleep cycle. I don't know if I'm sleeping any better - I still feel kind of tired when I wake up - but it's definitely cured me of one bad habit: when I woke up at night I would scroll the hellbird for 15-20 minutes before going back to sleep, and now I can't do that anymore.
Listen, you guys
Everything happens for a reason
If you just happen to have a sword appear in your trunk it’s 110% likely you have been Chosen
That it’s one of those shitty mall ninja swords all your stupid friends bought when you were 14 probably says something about your destiny, but guess what
You are the Chosen One anyway
Just got the first "Cathy can you fix my spreadsheet???" call of 2018. I could. Happily, the person who called *wanted to know how I fixed it* so that she could do the same thing in the future. #teachingapersontofish
did you know the coffee bean is technically a berry?
every time you brew a fresh pot, you're writing a new chapter in decanter berry tales
when you're building a ziggurat but the dog just won't stay off your wet bricks
hot date with Hubby for our anniversary last night. Had a delicious dinner, followed by gastric distress. Not the most romantic of evenings.
If you're new to Masto (or are old to it but still figuring it out) and you want to know how to sort out who to follow: One of my best methods is to find a good conversation, see who's saying things there that make sense, /and follow that profile/.
It's a vastly better algo than checking who's following you (assortment of rando space alien cats), soliciting suggestions (though that can work).
It also means that the best way to get followers /is to converse productively/.
When the master wielded the sword, it glowed green.
The student tried it; it shone red.
"It is to warn others."
"Am I evil?"
"Incompetent."
