@cypnk the benches here have a similar design. They also have adverts on the backs, one of which I saw was an advertisement for "compassion for the homeless". Probably a church or something. Anyway, this reminded me of that.
@stuarttempleton That right there, is the very definition of irony. I'm sure the church had no say on the design, but it still says a lot about the municipalities that allow their installation
Not to apologize for this kind of design, but I bet those handles do help some people who have less physical strength stand up off the benches. Armchairs are way easier to get out of than non-arm chairs.
@mDuo13@KitRedgrave As someone with a bad back, I can sympathize with that line of thinking. But personally, if the choice is between an extra grunt and a bit of a struggle to get up off the bench and letting a homeless person rest, I’ll take the latter any day of the week. That’s a tiny “sacrifice” for the benefit not having them can give
@cypnk This anti-homeless stuff keeps baffling me. How can people think of the homeless as a problem instead of realizing the fact that not being able to afford a home IS the problem?

@rick_777@cypnk In the US, poverty and being homeless are treated as moral and personal failings - nothing here ever happens by accident, it's always your fault.
